Elementary Teacher Jobs Position Description

The teacher is responsible for providing an educational setting where students will be able to achieve their intellectual, psychological, physical and emotional growth. The teacher will be responsible for constructing and implementing a standards-based instructional program that will show growth as evidenced by Adequate Yearly Progress.

Primary Responsibilities

• Prepare classroom, materials and lesson plans and implement activities for instruction


• Observe, evaluate, remediate and extend on students' academic performance, behavior and social development


• Identify, modify and adapt curriculum and approved instructional resources to meet various learning styles and needs of students


• Use various teaching methods to instruct students individually, in small groups, and whole class


• Implement and maintain effective classroom management to ensure continual progress of students


• Establish standards-based objectives for all lessons and utilize clear criterium for evaluating lessons


• Utilize efficient record keeping procedures


• Meet and confer with parents and guardians to discuss progress


• Communicate and confer effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration (both orally and written)


• Collaborate with colleagues on student achievement and professional issues


• Meet professional criteria and obligations


• Administer standardized achievement and ability tests


• Interpret student performance data and implement approved Response to Intervention Tiers 1, 2 and 3


• Enforce administration rules and policies


• Attend staff meetings at both the district and local levels


• Use audiovisual aids, computers, SmartBoards, or other interactive technology to supplement and support lessons


• Keep up-do-date with current educational issues


• Assist district with site-based management committees, such as revising or implementing curriculum.


• Demonstrate strong work ethic, accepts responsibility, and is self-motivated
