Learn about the history of Israel and experience Israel culture at ancient relics, museums and markets of Jerusalem. Enjoy an Israel vacation on the on the Gulf of Eilat by the Red Sea. There is also camping in the Negev (although the wild dogs and huge scorpions forced me to spend the night in the car), and there's no better way to do it than getting one of the many jobs in Israel.
Jerusalem is at 2,640 feet above sea level. In summer is it dry and comfortable, but in the winter it can be quite cold. Here you can meet a variety of people: religious and secular Jews and Arabs, monks, rabbis, priests, yeshiva students, diplomats, officials, and tourists. Israel images are at their best in the Old City. Just take a seat at a cafe on the Yehuda Pedestrian mall and watch for yourself! This 3,000 year-old city has a rich culture, with an abundance of places to visit, stay and eat. Pictures from Israel
The alleyways of the Old City are crammed with shops. One of my favorites was Souk el-Bazzar Road, which starts at Jaffa Gate and leads to the Temple Mount. Shoppers can find a bit of everything here, from religious items, Israel images and pictures, ceramics, and souvenirs, to beautiful wool and silk carpets (of which I bought quite a few!). Be sure to bargain for the best price. Even if you don't get a great bargain, the experience of haggling with the shop-owners is well worth it. The Wailing Wall
Through Jaffa Gate in the Old City you will find the Western (Wailing) Wall. The Wall is part of the western supporting wall of the Temple Mount. It is a sacred spot as according to the Mishna, this wall was the closest to the Holy of Holies. The surface of the wall is worn smooth from the many hands that have touched it in prayers throughout the years. The King David HotelBefore moving to Tel Aviv, I stayed at the King David Hotel when I would visit Israel.
It is a 5-star British Colonial style hotel where heads of state stay on official visits to the country. The King David overlooks the Old City and was built in 1931. During the British Mandate, the southern wing was British military and administrative headquarters. Today it has all the modern amenities one would expect, is simply luxurious, and you get the best Israel images from it's gardens - absolutely beautiful. The Garden of Gethsemane
The Garden of Gethsemane sits on the Mount of Olives, just across the Kidron Valley. It is a peaceful place, and the name means "oil-press," due to the ancient olive trees that are there. The Garden is the site where Jesus was betrayed by Judas Iscariot, was taken into custody by the Roman soldiers and handed over to Pontius Pilate. Pictures of Israel Beaches
We would often go down to the beach at Herzliya Pituach on the weekend - that's where I learned to love eating a bowl of olives with a cold Israeli beer! Dead Sea Face MudThe Dead Sea is in the Judean Desert, and is the saltiest sea in the world. This high concentration of salt makes the water have a high specific gravity, creating a unique buoyancy. The Black Mud of the Dead Sea is very high in minerals and trace elements that are supposed to be very good for skin care. I loved the Dead Sea salt lotion and facial mud. You can float in the water without any effort at all, as Dave did.
