Current Issues in Education
Current issues in education for teachers and parents. There are many controversial education issues that deserve an open platform and often views are skewed. There is room for everyone's opinion!
This isn't a part of the site that I really ever thought I would include.
However, there are so many controversial education issues being discussed today that I just had to do it.
They are issues that are affecting my American Dream - and if you live here they are affecting yours too. My dreams include my kids, and what is going on these days will and DOES impact them.
Some of the topics will be difficult to write about. Some I will get emotionally involved in. I might miss some (likely!) but the ones I do post have certainly hit a nerve with me, and most likely will you too.
I encourage you to share your point of view on current issues in education. This is part of what makes our country great: being able to express our opinions, beliefs and ideas in an open way.
That doesn't mean we always agree. It doesn't mean we won't fight over certain platforms. But it does mean we all have a voice when it comes to our children.
I do find it ironic when politicians begin speaking about educational reform and most of them have no experience in the classroom. They politicize instead of being real.
I also find it interesting when unions (to which I belong as a teacher) use their platform to bully and intimidate others who "threaten" their benefits.
So, as I find interesting educational news articles, watch the pundits hash out the educational system and listen to parents of children in the public school system (I am one of those too!) I will post those findings here.
What type of educational stories will be discussed? - school violence
- educational policies
- the role of parents
- teacher professionalism
- curriculum
- latest "research"
- politicians and laws
...and anything else I find interesting, intriguing, hysterically funny or outrageous.
I am not promising to be fair and balanced. After all, it is my site and my personal philosophy of education will certainly come through at times. But, I will always leave an open comment form for you to have your say. As long as we keep it clean and free from disparaging remarks about race and socio-economic status, anything goes. Heck, you can even link to your sites if you like (I will make them "no-follow") or reference other videos and/or articles.
Ready? It's going to be a bumpy ride!
Parting Thought: Let's start by being grateful for what we have. Perhaps then other things will begin to look a little less important. Just a thought.
